After a rapid progress in the development of springs, Peter Henlein was able to invent the first portable clock in 1510, which was small enough to be worn. These little clocks were still too bulky to fit into a pocket, however, and so it was only in the 17th Century that the pocket watch began to resemble our more contemporary models.
