- Prepare your tools
Gather a soft microfiber cloth, a bowl of lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush. If your watch has a leather strap, also keep a leather conditioner on hand.
- Check the water resistance
Before using any water, make sure your watch is water-resistant. If it is not, only use a dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid any soaking.
- Remove the strap (if possible)
If your watch has a removable strap, take it off. This makes it easier to clean both the strap and the case separately.
- Clean the case
Dip the cloth in soapy water (not too wet), wring it out, and gently wipe the case, bezel, and back. For stubborn dirt around small crevices, use the soft toothbrush in gentle circular motions.
- Clean the strap
- Metal bracelet: Soak for a few minutes in soapy water, then scrub lightly with the toothbrush. Rinse and dry completely.
- Rubber/fabric strap: Wipe with soapy water and rinse. Allow to air dry.
- Leather strap: Never soak. Instead, wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth, then apply a small amount of leather conditioner.
- Dry thoroughly
Pat the watch and strap with a dry microfiber cloth. Let them air dry fully before wearing again.
- Polish (optional)
If your watch has a stainless steel case, you can gently polish it with a watch-safe polish cloth. Avoid polishing plated or coated surfaces.
- Regular maintenance
Do this light cleaning every few weeks. For deep cleaning or internal servicing, visit a professional every 3–5 years.
